Tar Heels Host Duke In Home Finale Wednesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's tennis team (14-7 overall, 4-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) will play host to Duke Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis in the final home match for Tar Heel seniors Geoff Boyd (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jonathan Janda (Shelby, N.C.).
The match will be worth one point in the 2004-05 Carlyle Cup standings. The Carlyle Cup is awarded annually to the all-sports champion between the two schools based on competition in 23 sports. The Cup is sponsored by Carlyle and Company. UNC leads the current year's standings by 11.5 points to 6.5 points.
Duke comes into the match with a record of 16-3 overall and 6-1 in the ACC. The Blue Devils have only lost to No. 1 Baylor, No. 3 Virginia and No. 5 Illinois this season.
The Blue Devils are ranked No. 5 this week in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll while the Tar Heels are ranked No. 45 in this week's poll.
The Carolina Athletic Association will be providing free pizzas to fans attending the match on Wednesday. The CAA will also sponsor a serving contests for the fans between the playing of the doubles and the singles in the match.
