Ann Laney Takes Sixth Place at the ACC Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - North Carolina freshman Ann Laney capped off her first year of college golf with an impressive sixth place finish at the 2005 ACC Championship. Laney, a Charlotte native and member at the host course, Carmel Country Club, fired a 72 in the final round and finished with an 11-over tournament total of 227. Her 72 was one of the lowest rounds of the tournament.
Freshman Laura Caniff also made a significant contribution for the Tar Heels in the tournament. Caniff moved up five spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 20th. Despite the strong finishes of the two freshmen, the North Carolina women's golf team was unable to move up a spot in the final round and finished in seventh place with a tournament total 963.
The Duke women's golf team captured their 10th straight ACC Championship with a tournament total of 886. Duke had the top four individuals in this year's tournament. Brittany Lang won the individual honors with a total score of three-over-par, 219.
One point will be awarded to Duke in the Carlyle Cup for a higher finish than North Carolina at this year's ACC Women's Golf Championship
