Carolina Jumps 13 Spots In National Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. - After wins over NC State and then eighth-ranked Duke in last week's Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, the University of North Carolina men's tennis team jumped 13 spots in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings to the No. 32 spot. The ACC feature seven of the top 32 teams in the country this week and 10 teams in the Top 64.
Coach Sam Paul's team went into the ACC Tournament seeded No. 7 but beat NC State 4-0 in the first round and then upset No. 2 seed Duke 4-2 in the quarterfinals. Carolina fell to No. 3 seed Florida State 4-2 in the semifinals.
NCAA bids will be announced May 4. UNC has now put itself in contention for a possible No. 2 seed in a regional.
Among ACC teams, Virginia is ranked No. 2, Duke No. 9, Wake Forest No. 18, Florida State No. 20, Clemson No. 27, Georgia Tech No. 29, North Carolina No. 32, NC State No. 51, Virginia Tech No. 52 and Miami No. 64 in this week's ITA national rankings.
