Gordon Paces Tar Heels at Georgia Tech Invitational

Junior Sheena Gordon had a pair of top-three finishes in the triple jump and high jump to the lead the University of North Carolina track and field teams Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. Gordon took second in the triple jump with a career-best effort of 43 feet, 7 inches, the fourth-best outdoor mark in Carolina history. She also cleared 6-1 1/4 in the high jump to finish third.
Other top-ten finishers included Jocelyn White, Marija Kurtovic, Doug Smith, Daniel Harris and Nick Owens.
White took third in the women's discus with a throw of 160-11. Kurtovic was close behind in fifth with a mark of 157-2. On the men's side, Smith took tenth in a fast 800-meter field in 1:50.51. Harris was ninth in the triple jump with a best leap of 48-0 1/2, and Owens took third in the hammer with a throw of 208-1.
Next up for Carolina is the 2005 NCAA East Regional in Randall's Island, N.Y., May 27-28. The event will be hosted by Manhattan College.
