HYANNIS, Mass. - Thanks to a 12-2 combined record, North Carolina starting pitchers Daniel Bard, Andrew Miller and Robert Woodard were each named to the Cape Cod Baseball League's 43rd annual All-Star Game scheduled for Saturday at McKeon Park. Bard was selected as the starting pitcher for the West Division squad, while Miller and Woodard were chosen as reserves for the East Division.
Carolina infielder Chad Flack will participate in the Baseball Factory Home Run Hitting Contest prior to the All-Star Game, which will be televised on CSTV at 3 p.m.
A member of the Wareham Gatemen, Bard earned the starting nod for the West on the strength of a 3-2 record, a 1.47 earned run average and a league-best 62 strikeouts in 49 innings. In his last start, he tossed seven shutout innings and fanned 12 against just one walk.
Teammates with the Chatham A's, Miller and Woodard are a combined 9-0 on the summer. Woodard is 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 38.1 innings and has 20 strikeouts versus just three walks. Miller is 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 35 innings.
After hitting a Carolina freshman record 15 home runs this past season, Flack is hitting .226 for the Harwich Mariners with three home runs and 15 RBI in the prestigious wooden bat league.
