PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The North Carolina field hockey team registered its fourth shutout in five games with a 1-0 win at Temple on Saturday afternoon. At Geasey Field, UNC's only goal came early in the second half on a penalty corner shot by Rachel Dawson, a junior midfielder from Berlin, N.J.
With the win, Carolina improved to 5-0 while Temple fell to 1-4. The Tar Heels will stay in Philadelphia for a second game in the Temple Invitational, meeting Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tar Heels had plenty of scoring opportunities Saturday, outshooting Temple 18-3, but Owls goalkeeper Erin Hanshue made 12 saves to keep her team close. UNC's goal came 3:39 into the second half, with Chapel Hill products Xan Funk and Heather Kendell assisting on the play.
Senior goalkeeper Katy Tran made two saves for Carolina, which has given up just one goal in this season's five games.
