Whenever and wherever the Tar Heels play lots of Carolina fans enjoy following the team's fortunes via the coverage provided by the Tar Heel Sports Network. Those fans who follow the team to Atlanta on Saturday can hear the game broadcast at Grant Field on the FM frequency of 88.1.
That will be frequency for UNC supporters to check whenever the teams--football and basketball--are playing outside the network's normal coverage pattern.
"There will be times and certain locations," explained Ben Alexander, the network's technical director, "when there will be a coverage conflict with an area station, and I might not know about it until our stadium setup. So if the signal should not be available at 88.1 FM, the fans should simply scan the dial until they find our signal."
The coverage provided by the Tar Heel Sports Network begins at 2:30 p.m., Saturday or about an hour prior to the scheduled kickoff on ABC regional television.
Woody Durham begins his 35th season as Voice of the Tar Heels, while Lee Pace returns for his second season as the sideline reporter, and Alexander is also back for his second year with the network crew.
Jones Angell, who has handled the network scoreboard as well as the post-game show in recent years as well as handling women's basketball and baseball, moves into the role of network host, and the game analyst will be Rick Steinbacher.
Steinbacher, a former All-ACC linebacker at Carolina, was the network's sideline reporter until he joined the football staff six years ago as Director of Operations. He will continue in that position, but his game day schedule now allows him the time to return to the network.
"I am disappointed to lose Mick Mixon after 16 years," Durham pointed out, "but I am excited to have Jones get this opportunity and to have Rick back on the team. He's one of the best, and both will be a tremendous asset to me, the network and Carolina fans."
