CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With preseason practice underway and the 2006 season set to start in just one month, the honors continue to pile up for the University of North Carolina baseball program. The Tar Heels were ranked seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Division I Poll, which was released Tuesday, and four Tar Heels earned a spot on RosenblattReport.com's preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference squad, released Monday.
With the No. 7 ranking by the NCBWA, Carolina has now been ranked in the top seven in three major preseason polls. The Tar Heels were rated No. 6 by Baseball America and No. 7 by Collegiate Baseball.
UNC was picked to finish third in the ACC by RosenblattReport.com, and starting pitchers Andrew Miller and Robert Woodard, as well as shortstop Josh Horton and reliever Jonathan Hovis were all named to the site's preseason all-conference squad. Horton, Miller and Woodard each earned All-ACC honors in 2005.
Carolina opened team workouts at Boshamer Stadium Sunday, where the team will continue to prep for what figures to be an exciting season. The Tar Heels open the 2006 campaign against Seton Hall Feb. 17. Season tickets and individual game tickets are on sale now at TarHeelBlue.com.
