COLLEGE PARK, MD. - North Carolina swept dual meets from Maryland Saturday afternoon in collegiate swimming and diving action at the Campus Recreation Center Pool. The No. 22 Tar Heel women won nine of 16 events in recording a 175-115 win over the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Terrapins while UNC's No. 23 men won 12 of 16 events to post a 187-105 over the Terps.
Seven different Tar Heel women won events Saturday with freshman Mandi Arak capturing both diving events and sophomore Lindsey Marck winning both butterfly events.
Carolina's men were led by freshmen Yi-Khy Saw and Harrison Browning who combined to win five events. Saw took the top place in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. Browning was the dominant distance swimmer of the day as he took first place in the 1000- and 500-yard freestyles. Junior Casey Kott captured the 100-yard backstroke and he swam the leadoff leg on UNC's victorious 200-yard medley relay. Five other Tar Heels won one event each.
The meet was the final of the season for the Tar Heel women prior to the ACC Championships. UNC finished 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.
Carolina's men are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. Maryland's women fell to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the league while the Terps' men's squad is now 3-7 and 0-6.
