Chapel Hill, N.C. ---- University of North Carolina linebacker Larry Edwards fractured his collarbone in Saturday's 37-20 loss to South Florida and will likely miss the remainder of the season. Edwards leads the Tar Heels with 42 tackles, including a team-high 4.5 tackles for loss. He also has two sacks, one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries.
"Obviously, this is a tremendous loss for us," said head coach John Bunting. "I feel terrible for Larry and our team. Larry is an outstanding person and had been playing his best football recently. He is a hard working kid who has made great strides in our program both on and off the field."
A senior from Tampa, Fla., Edwards played nearly the entire USF game despite the injury and finished with nine tackles and a fumble recovery. Edwards is second on the team with 27 career starts, including 17 consecutive dating back to the start of the 2005 season.
