North Carolina Quotes
North Carolina head coach Anson Dorrance
Opening Statement
On Florida State's chances and the way the Seminoles played in tonight's game:
I thought we kept their chances to a minimum. I thought that the game was mostly played in their half. Obviously if the game is played in their half, it exposes us to a fast player like (India) Trotter. I congratulated her (Trotter) after the game, in hopes of never seeing her (on the playing field) again. It's interesting if you look at our history against FSU, I would venture to say that she has scored in almost every single game against us - as a matter of fact four straight games. Her goal last year was the critical goal to give them the lead in the NCAA Tournament. Earlier this year in the 2-1 victory, she scored; she scored again today. I thought we kept their chances down to a minimum. They finished up a great chance, but I was very happy with the way we played and the number of chances we created. In the first half, we had two wonderful opportunities. One with Libby (Guess) who shot it at the keeper and then with Robyn (Gayle) who shot it at the keeper. I wasn't at all displeased with a lot of things we did. I really wasn't disappointed with our effort or at all with what was going on.

On the preparation of this game:
Our mentality is that if we do our things right and we play our style to the best of our abilities then we will win games. We respect Florida State a lot, but we also know that if we do all our things well then we will win.
On Florida State's chances and the way the Seminoles played in tonight's game:
They have a lot of speed on their team, a lot of athleticism. They were getting some good final passes in. And against any team in any system that is a lethal combination.
On how Florida State ranks as a top rival:
They are at the top. I think that maybe the rivalry does not goes as far back as Duke, but FSU has really emerged as one of top teams. They have gotten a lot of great talent from the US and abroad and they just are really talented players. They are definitely up there as one of our top rival teams.
Senior forward Elizabeth Guess
On her game-winning goal:
To be honest I didn't even see the ball go in. but the setup, I have to give all the credit to Whitney Engen, her pass was absolutely perfect. I have actually expecting it to not be perfect. But had her pass been an inch to either side, I wouldn't have had a good enough touch to get a good shot off. The shot I think was just luck.
On scoring in the ACC Tournament and on her confidence in the postseason:
I don't think it has anything to do with my confidence. I really don't know what it has to do with. I think that at the end of the game, it's my senior year. I was flipping out at the beginning of the second half, but as the clock wound down, I know the same thing was going through Heather's head was that we didn't want to go into pks. It wasn't about confidence, it was about trying to get myself to score so we didn't have to go to pks.Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Rodenbough
On her mind set as the game headed into overtime:
I think it's the same as in any situation. We are just trying to win the game. Obviously from a defensive stand point, we are trying to minimize their chances. I have to give a lot of credit to our defense because they really didn't have that many chances in overtime.
Sophomore midfielder Yael Averbuch
On scoring her goal off the free kick:
Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian:
Opening Statement:
We didn't feel that way if he felt this team might hold on for the win after going up 1-0. We knew during the course of the game we would get our chances and they would get their chances. The reality of it is we weren't efficient enough on the chances we had. If you don't finish the chances you have, you are not going to win the game. Especially versus North Carolina you have to take advantage of the opportunities you get.
Senior forward Kelly Rowland:
Any time you play Carolina, when you get a chance you need to capitalize on that. We had them pinned in their end for a stretch there and had more chances than they did in that span. We were a bit unlucky at time but that's soccer. Carolina is a great team and it was a hard fought win.
We have played Carolina enough to know they play a high backline. We were trying to play ball behind them to India and myself, that's what we were trying to do. India (Trotter) got one, I was close a few times. When you get those chances versus Carolina you have to finish and we didn't do that.
