Game Notes From Tar Heels Win In ACC Championship Match

NOTES FROM THE TAR HEELS' ACC TITLE VICTORY
 Heather O'Reilly was named to the All-ACC Tournament for the fourth successive year. Elizabeth Guess made her third straight appearance on the team.
 Elizabeth Guess finished her career in ACC Tournament play with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. The 22 points are the sixth most in ACC Tournament history, trailing only Robin Confer, Alyssa Ramsey, Debbie Keller, Tisha Venturini and Cindy Parlow. Her eight goals are the fifth most in tournament history, trailing only Robin Confer, Tisha Venturini, Debbie Keller and Cindy Parlow. Her six assists equal the fifth most in ACC Tournament history, trailing only Alyssa Ramsey, Mia Hamm, Debbie Keller and Kacey White and tied with Lindsay Tarpley and Anne Remy.
 Heather O'Reilly finished her ACC Tournament career with 13 points, tied for 12th all-time. O'Reilly had six goals and one assist in tournament play.
 Freshman Whitney Engen led all scorers in the tournament this year with seven points. Guess was second with six points.
 Carolina's 21-match winning streak is its longest since it won 31 in a row in 2003 (27-0) and 2004 (4-0 start to the season).
 Elizabeth Guess has scored three goals this season and all have been game-winning tallies. She scored the game winner in UNC's 3-2 come-from-behind win over Connecticut on September 1 and then she scored back-to-back game winners in the ACC Tournament semifinals and finals against Clemson and Florida State.
 The Tar Heels have allowed only two goals to be scored on them in the second half of games this season. Both goals have been scored by Florida State's India Trotter.
 Carolina played only two overtime games this season. The Tar Heels started the season with a 1-0 loss at Texas A&M in double overtime. The Heels finished the regular season with an overtime win over Florida State 2-1.
 North Carolina outshot its three opponents in the ACC Tournament 76-15 and it had an edge in corner kicks 27-1.
 Carolina was whistled for only 18 fouls in the three ACC Tournament games.
 Yael Averbuch scored her 12th goal of the season against the Seminoles. Averbuch is the only Tar Heel in double figures in goal but 12 different Tar Heels have scored at least two goals each.
 Averbuch leads the Tar Heels in game-winning goals with six and four other Tar Heels - Heather O'Reilly, Whitney Engen, Elizabeth Guess and Jaime Gilbert - each have three game-winners.
 Whitney Engen notched her 10th assist of the season Sunday, joining Elizabeth Guess (12) and Heather O'Reilly (10) in double figures in assists.
 Elizabeth Guess has scored 29 career goals for UNC. Fourteen of those goals have come in post-season matches in either the ACC or NCAA Tournaments.
 Carolina's all-time record in ACC Tournament matches is now 49-0-2.
 The ACC Tournament championship was Carolina's 17th since the first tournament was staged in 1988. Carolina's titles came in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. The other two teams to win ACC titles were NC State in 1988 and Virginia in 2004, both on penalty kick shootouts after double overtime 1-1 ties.
 The Tar Heels are now 623-28-18 in all games since 1979.
 Carolina's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament ensures they will head to the Big Dance for the 25th successive year.
 At 21-1, UNC has now posted 18 straight years wins for the 18th season in a row.
 UNC improved to 7-1 in games decided by one goal with the win over Florida State.
 In both matches between UNC and Florida State this season one of the teams was ranked No. 1. On September 21, FSU was ranked No. 1 by Soccer America as Carolina beat the Seminoles 2-1. On Sunday, UNC was tied for first in the NSCAA poll.
 Elizabeth Guess has moved into a tie for 29th place in UNC history in goal scoring with 29. She now has 34 career assists, 28th in UNC history. Her 92 points are tied for 31st in Tar Heel annals.
 UNC improved to 21-5-17 in overtime games in history with the win Sunday.
