CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will open its 2006 regular season on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET when it plays the University of Oregon on the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore.
Oregon is 0-1 this season after losing 18-9 to Stanford last weekend to open its second season as a varsity program.
The Ducks are led by head coach Jen Larsen, a Tar Heel assistant coach from 2001 to 2003 under head coach Jenny Levy. Former Tar Heel All-America Beth Ames is a graduate assistant on Larsen's staff.
Saturday's game will mark the opening of the regular season for UNC, which co-hosted the annual South of the Border exhibition tournament last Sunday with Duke.
Carolina returns nine starters and 23 letterwinners from last year's NCAA quarterfinalist squad that went 14-6, 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tar Heels are led by All-America candidates Jess Allen, Jenn Cook, Kristen Hordy and Christina Juras.
