UNC's Ann Laney In Second Place At Lady Puerto Rico Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Carolina golfer Ann Laney answered her opening round 68 with a 73 in the second round for a three-under-par 141 total and is in second place, just one stroke behind the leader, going into the final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Tar Heels remain in sixth place after carding a 303 in the second round for a 604 total.
Florida leads the field of 16 teams with a 591 total after firing a four-over 292 in the second round. Host Purdue and Arkansas are tied for second place with 592 totals while Oklahoma State is in fourth place with a 596 total and Kent State is fifth at 598.
Laney, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., led Carolina for the second consecutive day. Another Tar Heel, freshman Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., is not far behind in a tie for eighth place after posting a pair of 74s for a 148 total. Junior Shannon Boyle, from Cary, N.C., cardOnnarin Sattayabanphoted a 77 for a 157 total and is tied for 47th place while Katie Miller, a junior from Jeannette, Pa., is one stoke back with a 158 total in a tie for 49th and Sydney Crane, a freshman from Jamestown, N.C., posted a 165 total and is tied for 72nd place.
Amanda McCurdy fired a four-under 68 for a 140 total and holds a slim one-stoke lead over Carolina's Laney, the first-round leader who fired her first career hole-in-one in the first round. Whitney Myers from Florida is close behind in third place with a two-under 142 total after firing a three-under 69 while Tara Delaney from Kent State carded an even-par 72 for a 146 total and is in fourth place. A trio of players is tied for fifth place with 147 totals - Purdue's Onnarin Sattayabanphot, Oklahoma State's Candy Herrera and Wisconsin's Katie Elliott.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Coco Beach Golf Course, which features a par 72, 6,000-yard layout.
