Luchici Named ACC Men's Tennis Player Of The Week For Second Time In Three Weeks

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Raian Luchici was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting impressive singles wins over ranked opponents and leading the Tar Heels to a 2-0 week.
Luchici opened his week with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 8 Stephen Bass at No. 1 singles as North Carolina topped No. 26 Notre Dame on Saturday, 4-3. Luchici's win clinched the match for the No. 30 Tar Heels.
The senior from Timisoara, Romania, turned in another solid performance against Yale on Sunday, as he helped North Carolina to a 7-0 win. Luchici, ranked No. 5 nationally in singles play, topped No. 33 Brandon Wai, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and teamed with Brad Pomeroy at No. 1 doubles to pick up an 8-5 win. Luchici and Pomeroy form the top-rated doubles team in the nation.
The award is the second of the season for Luchici, who shared the award on January 23. The Tar Heels return to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, when they will host Georgetown at 10 a.m. and UNC Wilmington at 4 p.m.
