Women's Golf Team Finishes 13th At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The North Carolina women's golf team moved up two spots during the final round of the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic held at LSU's University Club. The Heels finished in 13th place with a three-day total of 920. The Auburn Tigers held on to the lead among the 18-team field and captured this year's championship. The host team, Louisiana State, finished in a near second, just two strokes behind the Tigers with tournament total of 875.
Sophomore Ann Laney led all Tar Heels with a three-round total of 10-over-par 226 to tie for 24th place among the 98 individuals. In the final round, Laney carded birdies on holes number one, 15, and 16, on her way to a score of one-over 73, her lowest of the tournament. Freshman Lauren Hunt also fired her lowest round of the tournament on Sunday with an even-par 72. Hunt finished one stroke behind Laney overall, at 227, to tie for 30th. Katie Miller and Shannon Boyle also counted score for the Tar Heels in the final round.
Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino captured the individual medal after carding a five-under 67 in the final round. Concolino finished six-under overall with a score of 210. She took the lead from Louisiana State's Melissa Eaton in the final round. Eaton finished one stroke behind Concolino with a tournament total of five-under 211, posting an even par 72 in the final round.
The Tar Heels return to action on March 17 when they travel to Austin, Texas for the Betsey Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
