Ann Laney Scores Under Par In 2nd Round of Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C.-- The North Carolina women's golf team improved their first round score at the Bryan National Collegiate by 18 strokes and moved into 15th place as Ann Laney carded a 71. The one-under par score for Laney was 12 shots better than her first round total and was the best for any Tar Heel golfer on the day. She had three consecutive birdies on the back nine and four total. Katie Miller also showed a drastic improvement on day two of the tournament as she shot a four-over 76. Both Sydney Crane and Lauren Hunt lie four strokes behind Laney in the overall standings, while Katie Miller and Romi Irons lie eight back.
Overtaking first round leader Purdue was both Duke and Georgia. As a team, Georgia had the best round out of the field at three-over for the day and is now in first, while Duke was seven-over and is now in second. Following Purdue is fourth-place Tennessee who had the second best team score for the day. South Carolina rounds out the top five in fifth.
There is currently a three-way tie for first with Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo, Georgia's Tayler Leon, and Tennessee's Nicole Smith. Janangelo, the first round leader, carded a 77 after scoring a 67 on the first round. All three golfers are currently at even par. Another trio of golfers are gridlocked at one-over par for fourth place.
The Bryan National Collegiate concludes Sunday with a shotgun start.
