Christine Robella Makes First Trip To Nationals

Corvallis, Ore. - Junior Christine Robella travels to Oregon State University Thursday to compete in the 2006 NCAA Championships for gymnastics. Robella will compete in Session I of the preliminary round, which begins Thursday at 1 p.m. EDT at Oregon State's Gill Coliseum. She will rotate with the University of Alabama, performing in the all-around competition. Gymnasts with the top four scores in the preliminary round will compete in the finals Saturday.
This marks Christine Robella's first ever trip to nationals. The Virginia native qualified for nationals with her eighth place finish and score 39.150 in the all-around at the Southeast Regional. Robella will be competing against gymnasts from Utah, Nebraska, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma and Alabama in the preliminary round.
Christine Robella led the team all season, earning two EAGL Gymnast of the Week selections. Robella was honored on Jan. 18 after winning the all-around (38.925), the floor exercise (9.800) and tying for the top score on vault (9.850) in the Tar Heels' first-place finish at the George Washington Invitational. On Jan. 31 Robella was again named Gymnast of the Week for the second time in three weeks. The honor came after the team's home meet against Kentucky, Maryland, and James Madison. The competition marked Robella's third straight meet as all-around champion and included wins on uneven bars (9.825) and floor exercise (9.825).
Additionally, Christine Robella received numerous All-EAGL Selections such as: first team selection on vault, first team selection on uneven bars (two-time first team selection), first team selection on balance beam, second team selection on floor exercise, and first team selection on all-around (three-time first team selection). Robella was also named to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League All-Academic Team for the third straight year
The 25th NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships take place April 20-22 in Corvallis, Oregon.
