UNC Women's Golf Team Receives Bid To NCAA East Regional

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team was one of 21 teams to receive a bid to participate in the NCAA East Regional. The 54-hole event will be played May 11-13 at the Bryan Park Golf Club in Browns Summit, N.C. which features a par 72, 6,386-yard layout.
In addition to the 21 teams, three individuals received a bid to play in the regional. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on those eight teams will advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 23-26 at the University Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Tee times begin at 8:00 p.m. May 11th at Bryan Park off both the first and 10th tees.
"We're thrilled to be going to the East Regional and to have the opportunity to advance on to the NCAA Championships," says North Carolina head coach Sally Austin.
Seven Atlantic Coast Conference teams received bids to extend their seasons. Top-ranked Duke will be playing in the Central Regional at Texas A&M while the remaining six teams will be in the East Regional at Bryan Park. In addition to Carolina, the other teams in the East include Wake Forest, Virginia, Florida State, NC State and Maryland.
Carolina, ranked 40th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, was the runner-up at last fall's Wildcat Fall Invitational. The Tar Heels finished seventh at the ACC Championship and placed eighth at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and the Cougar Classic. Earlier today, Tar Heel sophomore Ann Laney was one of 12 golfers selected to this year's All-ACC team.
This marks Carolina's 13th appearance in the NCAA East Regional. Since the regional format was instituted in women's golf in 1993, the Tar Heels have received a bid in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In addition to the six ACC participants, the other schools at the East Regional will be Arizona State, Auburn, Tennessee, California, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, LSU, Alabama, Augusta State, Furman, Mississippi State, Campbell, College of Charleston, East Carolina and Yale. The three individuals receiving bids in the East are Adrienne White of Louisville, Christina Jones of South Florida and Michele Jarman and UNC Wilmington.
