OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Senior pitcher Crystal Cox was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Divison I All-America Third Team, the NFCA announced Wednesday. Cox becomes just the seventh player in Carolina history to earn All-America honors and the first since Jaclyn Holden in 2003.
Cox recorded a school-record 27 wins in 2006 and struck out 334 batters in just 265.2 innings. In addition to establishing a new single-season strikeout record, Cox became the first Tar Heel to reach 1,200 career strikeouts and just the 18th pitcher in NCAA history to achieve that milestone.
In addition to her All-America accolades, Cox earned first-team All-ACC and first-team All-Southeast Region honors in 2006.
