Tar Heel Women's Golf Coaches To Assist Katrina Victims

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina head women's golf coach Sally Austin and assistant coach Patricia Martinson are bound for New Orleans, La., June 5-9 to assist in the construction of a new home in the Katrina ravaged Upper 9th Ward. This is part of "Project Team Build"in which members of the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) and the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity are joining forces to build a home in this area that was torn apart by Hurricane Katrina last September.
"Patricia and I are real excited to be going to New Orleans to assist with this project," says Austin. "We both have friends there and know how much help is still needed. Our coaches association took on this project and we are both just happy to do what we can to help these people."
In addition to providing hands-on assistance, women's golf programs across the nation have raised funds throughout the spring season to assist in the building of this home. Austin and Martinson are taking with them funds that the Tar Heels have raised in the past few months. To date, over $30,000 has been donated to The New Orleans Habitat for Humanity on behalf of the NGCA "Project Team Build."
"I would personally like to thank the many programs that have donated toward this most needed cause and invite more programs or individuals that would like to contribute in the name of your "favorite" collegiate team to help us reach our $60,000 goal. We are very close and look forward to heading to New Orleans to help make this a reality," stated Denise St. Pierre, NGCA President and Project Coordinator.
