CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina All-Americas Josh Horton and Andrew Miller added yet another award for their outstanding efforts in 2006 Wednesday, as they were both named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Atlantic Region First Team. The Atlantic Coast Conference dominated the honors with eight first-team selections.
Joining Horton and Miller on the first team were Clemson's Andy D'Alessio, Tyler Colvin and Josh Cribb, as well as Georgia Tech's Matt Wieters, Wake Forest's Matt Antonelli and Sean Doolittle of Virginia. Another six ACC players were named to the second team.
Miller, the 2006 Baseball America National Player of the Year and a first-team All-America selection by three different organizations, is 13-2 with a 2.11 ERA in 110.2 innings. He has fanned 119 batters and is UNC's career leader in strikeouts. Miller, who will start for the Tar Heels against Cal State Fullerton in the College World Series Friday, was the No. 6 overall selection by the Detroit Tigers in the recent major league draft.
A sophomore shortstop, Horton sports an ACC-best .404 batting average, as well as career highs of seven home runs and 55 RBI. He is just one hit shy of becoming the fourth Tar Heel to post 100 hits in a single season. Horton has earned second-team All-America honors from Baseball America and third-team accolades from Collegiate Baseball.
