Carolina's 11-7 loss to Oregon State snapped a nine-game winning streak and marked its first defeat of the NCAA tournament. The Tar Heels and Beavers will play a third game to decide the national championship at 7 p.m. Monday on ESPN. Junior right-hander Daniel Bard (9-3) will start for the Tar Heels.

Tim Federowicz gave the Tar Heels a four-hit effort for the second straight night Sunday after Chad Flack was for 4-for-4 in game one of the championship series. Federowicz went 4-for-4 with a two-run double in the third and a two-run home run his 12th in the seventh for four RBI. He now has two homers and seven RBI in the CWS and passed the 60-RBI mark for the season Sunday. Federowicz is currently third on the team with 62 RBI.

Chad Flack's ninth hit of the CWS, a third-inning single, produced his first RBI in Omaha. The Tar Heels' RBI leader with 68, Flack entered the CWS with 11 straight games with an RBI but was held without one at Rosenblatt Stadium until Sunday. Flack added his second triple in the championship series in the ninth inning.

Reid Fronk and Seth Williams each had two hits Sunday to extend their team-best hitting streaks to nine games.

After going 0-for-5 for just the second time this year, Josh Horton has been held hitless in back-to-back games for the first time this season. He has hit safely in 58 of 67 games played this season.

With two hits Sunday in his first CWS action, Matt Spencer posted his first-multi hit game since an April 5 win over Davidson.

Matt Spencer's RBI single in the second was his first RBI base hit since a solo home run at UNC Greensboro April 18. He drove in a run June 3 against Winthrop with a bases-loaded walk and also notched a sacrifice fly at Duke April 29. Just three of Spencer's 29 RBI have come in the last 24 games he has played.

Oregon State's seven-run fourth inning matched a season-high for runs allowed in a single frame by the Tar Heels. Carolina also allowed seven in a March 17 loss to Maryland (15-8) and a March 35 loss at Georgia Tech (11-1).

The two runs charged to Matt Danford in the fourth were the first allowed by the UNC bullpen at the CWS. Danford allowed a career-high six runs on four hits and three walks in 2.1 innings.

The 11 runs allowed by Carolina marked the most since a 12-8 loss to Winthrop May 10.
