Tar Heels Play To 1-1 Exhibition Draw With Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - In the University of North Carolina's first contest of the 2006-07 athletic campaign, the Tar Heels came away with a 1-1 exhibition tie against Davidson in preseason men's soccer action Sunday at Alumni Stadium. Senior defender David Boole scored the lone goal for the Carolina in the 70th minute.
Junior Robby Hoak gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 advantage with an eighth-minute strike. The Atlanta, Ga., native gathered a North Carolina miscue and chipped his one-on-one opportunity from 10 yards out past the Tar Heels' goalkeeper Justin Hughes.
Boole provided the game-tying score at 69:27, as the Raleigh product drove home a pass from sophomore midfielder Michael Callahan. Freshman forward Bill Dworsky came off the bench to pick up an assist on Boole's second half equalizer.
The Tar Heels' finished with a 12-10 shot advantage. Davidson's Ben Ashton made five stops in goal, while Hughes stopped a pair for North Carolina.
Carolina returns to exhibition action at Gardner-Webb Saturday at 7 p.m. After a Blue-White Exhibition Aug. 21, the Tar Heels open the regular season against William & Mary Aug. 25 at the Wake Forest adidas Classic.
