Carolina Golfers Grab Lead After First Round Of Cougar Classic

Hanahan, S.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a two-under-par 286 to grab the first-round lead of the Cougar Classic. The Tar Heels hold a six shot lead over Furman which carded a four-over 292 total.
Tar Heel Lauren Hunt, a sophomore from Little River, S.C., leads in the individual race after firing a three-under 69. She stands one stroke ahead of Florida State's Whitney Brummett and Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayr. Four players are deadlocked in fourth place with one-under 71 scores - Carolina's Katie Miller, Furman's Blair Lamb, Notre Dame's Lisa Maunu and Campbell's Alejandra Shaw.
Tar Heel Sydney Crane, a sophomore from Jamestown, N.C., posted an even par 72 and is tied for eighth place. Ann Laney, a junior from Charlotte, is tied for 21st place with a 74 while freshman Kate Thomas, from Bathurst, New South Wales, , is tied for 34th place at 75.
The second round is underway at Yeamans Hall which features a par 72, 6,092-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com
