The UNC Women's Golf Team Hosts The Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team will play host to the 32nd annual Tar Heel Invitational October 5-7 at UNC Finley Golf Course, which features a par 72, 6,285-yard layout. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday with teams starting off both the #1 and #10 tees. There will be a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission fee.

The field of 18 teams includes 12 which are ranked in the top 30 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. In addition to host North Carolina which is ranked 26th, the field includes Duke (#2), Auburn (#7), Oklahoma State (#8), Georgia (#11), Tennessee (#12), Texas (#14), Vanderbilt (#16), Wake Forest (#18), East Carolina (#20), Florida State (#28), South Carolina (#29), Kentucky (#33), NC State (#34), Texas A&M (#40), College of Charleston, Tulsa and Virginia.

"This year we host one of the strongest fields in the history of this tournament and one of the best anywhere this year," says North Carolina head coach Sally Austin. "We are thrilled to have so many highly ranked teams competing here and are excited about the opportunity to compete on our home course in a field this strong."

Carolina has played in one tournament so far this fall. The Tar Heels tied for sixth place at the Cougar Classic played Sept. 11-12 in Hanahan, S.C. Junior Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C. was the low Tar Heel, tying for 20th place with a 220 total. Sophomore Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, tied for 22nd while Ann Laney, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., tied for 42nd, Sydney Crane, a junior from Jamestown, N.C., tied for 48th and Colette Lowe, a senior from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., tied for 60th.
