You never know who might stop by to watch an NFL game with you. It could even be Lawrence Taylor. The former Tar Heel great was in Fuquay on Sunday to watch the Giants-Eagles game with a lucky contest winner.
Taylor also had some kind words for Carolina head coach Butch Davis. "That's a guy who can get into Florida and bring out some studs," the class of 1999 Hall of Famer said of Davis's recruiting ability.
Taylor, who redefined the linebacker position (for an interesting glimpse into how he redefined pro football, read Michael Lewis's The Blind Side) in the NFL, is still a fixture in the Tar Heel record books. His 21 career sacks ranks fourth all-time at UNC, and his 16 sacks in 1980 remains the school record. In that same season, Taylor had 22 tackles for loss, which is tied for the third-highest single-season figure in school history.
