Former North Carolina defensive end Tommy Davis has been added to the Washington Redskins practice squad according to the team's official website. Davis lettered at North Carolina from 2002-05 and started three years. In 2005, he led the team with eight sacks, the most by a Tar Heel since Julius Peppers had 9.5 in 2001. He was an honorable mention All-ACC performer as a senior and signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints.
An injury in training camp derailed his progress with the Saints. He recovered from the injury later in the year and signed with the New York Giants where he was a member of the practice squad during the 2006 season. He was cut by the Giants this year and has often been seen in Chapel Hill working out in the weight room. Davis is not the only connection to the Washington Redskins. Former offensive lineman Arthur Smith serves as the team's defensive quality control coach.
