Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- The University of North Carolina has signed a contract to play a seventh home football in 2008 against McNeese State University in the season opener on Aug. 30.
The 2008 schedule is now completed and includes home games against Connecticut (Oct. 4), Notre Dame (Oct. 11), McNeese State (Aug. 30), Boston College, Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia Tech.
"We are in the process of evaluating our schedule over the next 10 years and I'm hopeful that in most seasons we can provide our fans the opportunity to see the Tar Heels play seven times at Kenan Stadium," says head coach Butch Davis. "I also want to explore the possibility of playing non-conference road games in areas that can help us in recruiting."
Located in Lake Charles, La., McNeese state finished the year 11-1 and was ranked No. 3 in the final Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) Top 25 regular season poll. McNeese, the No. 2 seed, lost to Eastern Washington in the first round of the playoffs.
North Carolina's 2008 schedule, including dates for all games, will not be released by the ACC until late January.
North Carolina's 2007 schedule ranked as the 25th-most difficult in the country in USA Today's Sagarin rankings. The Tar Heels have played a top 25 schedule in six of the last seven seasons.
