Four Tar Heels Named To The Sporting News Freshman All-America Team

Chapel Hill, N.C. ---- Four University of North Carolina football players have been named to The Sporting News Freshman All-America Team announced Friday.
Deunta Williams, the 2007 ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, was selected to the second team, while defensive tackle Marvin Austin, linebacker Quan Sturdivant and quarterback T.J. Yates were honorable mention selections.
Williams and Austin have been named to every freshman All-America team thus far, including The Sporting News, Rivals.com, Scout.com and CollegeFootballNews.com. Austin was the No. 1 defensive recruit in the country last year and played in every game in 2007, starting three. He recorded 26 tackles, six tackles for loss and four sacks. Williams was fifth on the team in tackles with 57 and led the Tar Heels with three interceptions.
Sturdivant came on strong at the end of the season, making six starts and finishing with 47 tackles.
Yates set the UNC single-season record with 2,655 passing yards. He completed 218 of 365 and had 14 touchdown passes.
