North Carolina notes following Feb. 10 win over Wake Forest
Carolina equaled its largest win ever against Wake Forest with its 104-67 (37 point margin) win today. UNC also beat the Deacons, 100-63, on Jan. 25, 1984 at Carmichael Auditorium.
On Jan. 24, 2007, the Tar Heels beat the Deacs by 28 points in Winston-Salem, UNC's largest road win ever against Wake Forest.
Carolina shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the first half. That is the highest first half shooting percentage in an ACC game this year. The only first halves with better shooting percentages were against High Point (.655) and Florida Atlantic (.741).
Carolina is 16-0 this season when it shoots 50 percent or better from the floor. This was the second straight game and the fifth time in six games the Tar Heels have shot 50 percent or better from the floor.
Reyshawn Terry set a season scoring high with 23 points. His previous high was 19 against Penn. His previous ACC high this year was 16 against Georgia Tech. It was his first 20-point game since he had 24 against Virginia in the 2005 ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
Brandan Wright had a season-high five assists, Wayne Ellington tied his high with five assists and Deon Thompson set a season mark with seven rebounds.
Carolina made a season-high 28 free throws (previous was 27 vs. Gardner-Webb).
Carolina reached the 100-point mark for the seventh time this season. That is the most times in one year since the 1992-93 national championship team did it 10 times.
This was the third ACC game this year that the Tar Heels hit 100 points, the most in ACC action since the 1992-93 team did it four times in ACC play.
The 104 points were the most in a regulation length game against Wake Forest since Feb. 3, 1966, when UNC beat the Deacons, 115-87. On Dec. 19, 2003, UNC lost to Wake Forest, 119-114 in triple overtime.
Brandan Wright made all seven of his shots from the floor, the 17th time in his 24 games he has shot at least 60 percent. It was the first time this year any Tar Heel has made all his shot attempts (with at least seven made baskets).
Reyshawn Terry shot 87.5 percent from the floor making seven of eight attempts, his best shooting game of the season. He was 3 for 3 from three-point range and 6 for 6 from the free throw line. The six made free throws tied his season high set in the first game of the season.
Tyler Hansbrough was 8 for 9 from the free throw line. He made his first eight attempts. The miss snapped his season-best streak of 24 consecutive made free throws.
Carolina had 13 turnovers for the second game in a row. That is the third straight game and fourth time in the last five games the Heels had 13 or fewer turnovers.
