Former North Carolina football players Jeff Saturday and Dexter Reid helped Indianapolis win its first Super Bowl title with a 29-17 victory over Chicago in Super Bowl XLI in Miami.
Saturday started at center and helped the Colts' offense rush for 191 yards, including 113 by Dominic Rhodes. Indy also threw for 239 yards. Saturday has been instrumental in the Colts' offensive success over the past few years and this season Indy was third in the NFL, averaging 379.4 yards.
Saturday has started 112 of the team's last 114 regular-season games at center.
A four-year letterwinner at North Carolina from 1994-97, Saturday was a part of two Top 10 teams at Carolina, including the 1997 squad that went 11-1, won the Gator Bowl and finished No. 4 in the coaches poll.
Reid, who is primarily a special teams player, won his second Super Bowl ring. He also won a championship title with New England in his rookie season in 2005. He made two tackles in the Patriots' 24-21 Super Bowl XXXIX victory against Philadelphia.
North Carolina has had at least one player on a Super Bowl roster in 20 of the last 21 Super Bowls.
