Robella and Nguyen Claim Weekly EAGL Honors

North Carolina senior Christine Robella was named co-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6. She shares the honor with Pittsburgh senior Andrea Arlotta.
A native of Alexandria, Va., Robella, placed second in the all-around at the Governor's Cup with a score of 39.275. She also placed third on the vault (9.875), tied for first on bars (9.800), tied second on the beam (9.750), first on floor (9.850). This is the second time that Robella has received the honor this season.
For the second week in a row, freshman Christine Nguyen claims the EAGL Rookie of the Week honor. Nguyen, a native of Plano, Texas, placed first in the all-around with a season-high score of 39.325 at the Governor's Cup in Raleigh, N.C., on February 2 against NC State, Maryland and Towson. She also placed first on the beam (9.825), tied for first on the vault (9.900), second on the floor (9.825), third on the bars (9.775).
Carolina (7-3) hosts its first home meet of the season, the Tar Heel Invitational, on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium. In conjunction with the meet, the Tar Heels are also hosting their second annual Women's Health Fair. The Health Fair hopes to raise awareness for pancreatic and breast cancer, as well as, honor women whose lives have been affected by cancer.
