Tar Heels Host Football Coaches Clinic

Chapel Hill, N.C. ------ Head coach Butch Davis and the UNC football program will host its annual football coaches clinic, Thursday-Saturday, March 22-24. Guest speakers includes high school coaches of North Carolina's state championship teams, the University of North Carolina football staff and Rex Ryan of the Baltimore Ravens and Clyde Christensen of the Indianapolis Colts.
Greg Thomas of Greenville Rose High School, Richard Grissom of Elkin High School, Mike Smith of Hampton High School, Steve Johnson of Burlington Cummings High School and E.Z. Smith of Concord High School are scheduled to make presentations.
Ryan, now in his ninth year with the Ravens, will speak on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Ryan has been instrumental in building the Ravens into one of the NFL's most consistent defenses. Last season, the Ravens were No. 1 in the NFL, allowing just 264.1 yards per game, nearly 20 yards fewer than second-ranked Jacksonville.
Christensen helped lead the Colts to a Super Bowl title this season as the team's receivers coach and will make his presentation Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Christensen played quarterback at North Carolina, where he lettered from 1977-78, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in industrial relations.
North Carolina will practice twice during the clinic, on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Registration opens Thursday at 3 p.m.
