CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team got four goals from freshman Kristen Taylor and two goals and an assist from fellow rookie Megan Bosica and defeated Atlantic Coast Conference rival Boston College, 14-4, on Sunday afternoon at Fetzer Field.
With the win, the Tar Heels improve to 10-1 this season, 2-1 in the ACC. Carolina is ranked No. 2 in the nation by the IWLCA and No. 3 by the Inside Lacrosse media poll. BC is unranked in both national polls.
In addition to the offensive output of Taylor and Bosica, Carolina also got two goals from Christina Juras, two from Chelsea Parks and two assists from Melissa McCarthy. Meg Freshwater, Jess Allen, Katie Brooks and Lindsay Higgins all had single goals for the Tar Heels, while Chrissy Rude had an assist.
The Eagles were led on the day by Elizabeth Kadison's two goals. Margot Spatola and Jenna McCabe also scored goals for BC.
In the first half, Carolina scored first on a goal by Bosica off a Chrissy Rude assist. BC responded three minutes later with a goal from Kadison to tie the score at 1-1. The Tar Heels then closed the first half on a 6-0 run, getting two goals from Juras during the run. UNC led 7-1 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half, as the Tar Heels scored the first four goals of the period to stretch their lead to 11-1. Spatola scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 11-2 before Bosica, Freshwater and Higgins scored three in a row to make it 14-2. BC added two late goals to cut the final margin to 14-4.
Carolina will return to action next weekend in State College, Pa., at the ACC/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge. UNC will play host Penn State on Friday night and Ohio State on Sunday afternoon.
