Evans Earns Academic All-District Honor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina's Anna Evans, a senior shortstop, has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District second team for softball, announced Thursday. She earned second-team honors for the third year in a row.
Evans, from Fairmont, N.C., will graduate from UNC this month with a double major in biology and exercise and sport science and a minor in chemistry. She carries a 3.5 grade point average and attended North Carolina on a Morehead-Cain Scholarship, the school's most prestigious merit award.
She is a recipient of an Atlantic Coast Conference Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship as well as the Tatum Award as one of UNC's top all-around student-athletes. She also received the ACC Top Six for Service Award, recognizing her involvement in community outreach activities. Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll, the Dean's List and the All-ACC Softball Academic Team, she plans to attend dental school at UNC this fall.
Evans is a fourth-year starter for the Tar Heels, 43-17 this season heading into the ACC Championship, which begins Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla. A .265 career hitter, she holds the school records for career starts and career games played and needs one walk to tie the school record in that category. She was named team MVP and All-ACC as a sophomore.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be starters or key reserves on their teams. First-team recipients advance as candidates for Academic All-America honors.
