TAR HEEL GOLF NOTES
CAROLINA IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: This marks Carolina's 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship and the fifth time Carolina has been to the NCAAs since Head Coach Sally Austin took over the helm in 1993-94. She took the 1994, 1995, 2003 and 2004 teams to the NCAAs. Carolina's previous trips to the NCAA Championship came in 1982, 1984, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2003 and 2004. The Tar Heels' top finish has been eighth place. They finished alone in eighth place in 1989, 1992 and 1995 and tied for eighth in 1993.
CAROLINA BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD AT NCAA EAST REGIONAL: Carolina advanced to this year's NCAA Championship by virtue of a tie for fifth place at the NCAA East Regional at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La., a par 72, 6,351-yard layout. The Tar Heels were tied for 11th going into the final round, but rose to the occasion and fired an eight-under-par 280, which broke the school record for the team score in a single round. Ann Laney fired a five-under 67 in the final round while Katie Miller and Kate Thomas both carded a two-under 70 and Lauren Hunt posted a one-over 73 for Carolina's record round. The Tar Heels finished with a two-under 862 total after rounds of 290-292-280. That two-under total was also a school record for team tournament score vs. par. Carolina carded an 861 total in the 2004 ACC Championship, but that was nine-over par at the par-71 Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C.
THIS YEAR'S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP: This year's NCAA Championship will be played May 22-25 at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., which features a par 72, 6,351-yard layout. This marks the first time the LPGA International has hosted the NCAA Women's Golf Championship. The 72-hole event will have 24 teams and six individuals (not on those eight teams) competing.
The teams advancing out of the NCAA East Regional played at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La., are Duke, UCLA, Wake Forest, Auburn, North Carolina, Purdue, Alabama and Louisville. The qualifiers from the NCAA Central Regional at University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich., are Southern California, Georgia, TCU, Indiana, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Michigan State. The qualifiers from the NCAA West Regional at Entrada at Snow Canyon Golf Course in St. George, Utah, are Oklahoma State, Stanford, Arizona State, Denver, Brigham Young, UC-Irvine, Pepperdine and New Mexico. The individual qualifiers are Caroline Westrup of Florida State and Lene Krog of East Carolina from the East; Stacy Lewis of Arkansas and Pamela Ontiveros of Oral Roberts from the Central; and Kay Hoey of Long Beach and Kelly Nakashima of Idaho from the West.

The Tar Heels tallied a seventh-place finish at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational as Thomas led the Tar Heels by tying for sixth place with a 220 total.
CAROLINA'S FALL CAMPAIGN: Carolina was the runner-up at the Cougar Classic, the Tar Heels' first event of the year as sophomore Lauren Hunt captured the individual title for her first collegiate win. Hunt fired a six-under-par 210 total with rounds of 69-71-70. Sydney Crane tied for 14th place with a 220 total. Carolina carded fourth-place finishes in two tournaments, the Lady Tar Heel Invitational and The Derby Invitational. HUNT AND MILLER NAMED TO ALL-ACC TEAM: Lauren Hunt, a sophomore from Little River, S.C., and Katie Miller, a senior from Jeannette, Pa., were two of 12 players selected to this year's All-ACC team. This marks Miller's second appearance on the all-conference squad while Hunt was named to the team for the first time. The other members on the squad are Duke's Amanda Blumenherst, Anna Grzebien, Jennie Lee, Jennifer Pandolfi and Alison Whitaker; Florida State's Caroline Westrup; Maryland's Kelly Calkin; Virginia's Jennie Arseneault and Leah Wigger; and Wake Forest's Amanda Goins.
