Carolina's 8-4 loss to Georgia Tech was just its second of the season when leading after six innings. The Tar Heels, who are now 39-2 when in front after six, were in front 3-1 heading to the seventh today. UNC's only other loss when ahead after six came against Penn State March 3.
The Tar Heels have lost six straight games in ACC play dating to 2004. Carolina is 0-5 all-time at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
* Carolina issued a season-high 11 walks, surpassing the nine allowed in an April 14 loss to Duke. The 11 free passes were the most for the Tar Heels since also walking 11 at Florida State May 15, 2005.
* ACC Freshman of the Year Dustin Ackley extended his current hitting streak to 13 games with a fourth inning single. The streak is his longest since a UNC rookie record 28-game streak from Feb. 28 to April 14. He owns two of the three longest streaks by a Tar Heel this season.
* Freshman outfielder Tim Fedroff went 2-for-3 to extend his career-best hitting streak to seven games. He has multi-hit games in three of his last five starts.
Junior third baseman Chad Flack went 2-for-4 with and drove in a run for the third straight game. He is now tied for 10th all-time with a 153 career RBI.
* Starter Adam Warren issued a career-high four walks over his 4 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on just four hits before Matt Danford came on in the fifth for his 109th career appearance.
* The game marked the first meeting between the Tar Heels and Yellow Jackets in the ACC Tournament since a 10-6 Georgia Tech win in 2003.
