Game 6 Quotes: Rice vs. North Carolina
Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, Neb.
Sunday, June 17, 2007
Rice Head Coach Wayne Graham
(opening statement): "We had a good day and we're hoping for three more good days. Joe (Savery) and Cole (St.Clair) both pitched well and our team did a good job with the bats. It was good ... definitely a good day for us."
(on the offense): "Sometimes the guys just don't hit, and the pitchers we've faced have been good. I think the guys are just zeroed in now and have addressed any issues at the plate. Our guys are very capable of being a good hitting club."
Rice 1B J.P. Padron
(about playing first base and offense): "I felt like I was focused at the plate. I saw good pitches and just wanted to get that base runner in from first. I played some first base this year and also in high school. I felt like there were times when I went for a tag instead of stretching for the base, but I think it went well."
Rice P Joe Savery
(about his outing on the mound and at the plate): "I felt pretty good. My arm hurt when I threw that ball to the backstop. I had some mistakes, but overall, I felt great. It really helps the outing when the offense is good."
(on experience from 2006 Men's College World Series): "Last year we were lucky to be 2-0. The experience from last year has helped us to attack the game more. We're just hoping for the best."
Rice 3B Diego Seastrunk
(about his aggressiveness during the game): "I'm an aggressive player and I'm trying to find that happy medium at the plate. I was hoping to see a good pitch in the zone. I wasn't surprised about the intentional walk to Joe (Savery) but I was just hoping to put the ball in play and move him over from first base."
North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "There is not a lot to say. They are a good team, probably the best team we have played all year. That was a good ole' fashioned fanny whoopin. We hope we have the opportunity to play them again. We had little opportunity again them tonight. I thought their third baseman (Diego Seastrunk) was terrific. We'll rebound and try again on Tuesday."
(on North Carolina's starting pitchers): "Our hope is to get a good start. These are kids, not robots, and bound to make mistakes. We have pitched so well all year and on this stage, against a team that hits well over the wall, we will have our hands full."
North Carolina SP Alex White
(on his performance against Rice): "I'm not sure myself. There is not much to say. I am frustrated because I felt I had good stuff, especially the first and second innings. I think we will be fine on Tuesday."
North Carolina LF Reid Fronk
(on Joe Savery's performance): "He has three good pitches he throws for strikes. He kept us off balance with his three pitches. He mixed it up really well, over the plate. We had a couple of good swings but we couldn't string anything together."
