Game 9 Quotes: North Carolina vs. Louisville
Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, Neb.
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "First of all, congratulations to Dan (McDonnell) and Louisville for a terrific season. And congratulations to our team on 55 wins, which is the most in the history of our program. We were happy to get that one and survive. We had to play a lot differently today, obviously with the wind. Pitching and defense is the name of the game and we got all those today. We're happy to be able to play tomorrow."
(about pitching staff having three games in three days): "That was important. We didn't have to use Robert and Adam. I'm happy that Robert is going to get another chance to pitch tomorrow."
(about playing Rice): "We hope it is a different game than it was the first time. We have to be better offensively than we were today. We're happy to be playing tomorrow. We'll have to play well."
(about today's game): "This game is crazy. You can go from scoring a lot of runs to none. It is all controlled by the guy on the mound. Good pitching is good hitting any day of the week. Today was a good example of that."
North Carolina C Tim Federowicz
(about): "I was trying to throw hard and hit my spots. All around I was more confident throwing strikes."
North Carolina P Andrew Carignan
(about his pitching performance): "I take a lot of pride in inheriting runners. There were two runners on, and I wanted to come in and clean it up."
Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell
(opening statement): "First of all, congratulations to North Carolina. They are a very good team. You don't really prepare for a season-ending speech when things are going so well for you. What a great season for the University of Louisville. This team will go down in history as one of the greatest baseball teams in Louisville history. What a special season we have had. I told them that the season is going to end and you want it to end in Omaha."
(about only tallying three hits): "You realize anything can happen when you lose the first game 15-10. It was a tough day on the hitters. We had a couple of balls hit hard but they just weren't going out for us. I credit UNC for getting it done today."
(about this years team): "We thought we were very talented. They worked so hard all year long. They did everything we asked them to. This is a group of achievers. It wouldn't shock me if a few of them continue to play ball for a long time."
Louisville 2B Logan Johnson
(about the Louisville offense today): "Just because the wind was blowing in doesn't mean it's not going to be a big day on offense. The North Carolina pitchers got it done today. We had a lot of line drives but we just couldn't get anything to fall our way."
Louisville SS Chris Cates
(about the end of the season): "I have mixed emotions right now. It's been a great season and I'm just glad to make here (Omaha). Like coach (McDonnell) said, this is a team that will go down in Louisville history. I am just glad to be a part of it."
