I want to first state how disappointed I am to not have the opportunity to complete my senior season. I understand playing football does not last forever, but this is not the way I wanted to close this chapter. However, life takes its own turns and makes its own demands, writes its own story and I understand that I am not the author. This year has been an exciting ride for me and all my teammates, a winning record, becoming bowl eligible, and being a part of a program that is taking all the right steps to become successful year in and year out.
I have stated so many times before, having the opportunity and privilege to play college football at the University of North Carolina was a dream come true. To all the Carolina supporters, thank you for all you do for UNC athletics. It is your generosity that has allowed me to live out this dream. I poured my heart and soul into this program hoping to leave it on solid footing and with a bright future. The journey was never easy, but I never waivered in my determination and belief that I could become an instrumental part in making that happen.
I have truly been blessed in so many ways, the unconditional family love and support, the opportunity to make teammates into life long friends, being named Team Captain-an honor I will always cherish, and playing in every single game during my career up to now--47 out of 48.
To my family, I love you with all my heart. You mean the world to me. There is nothing I can say or write that would do justice for the way I feel for you. Ya'll have been such a blessing in my life and the memories we have together and will continue to have are the ones that I cherish the most.
To my teammates, finish strong-Beat Duke and ring that Victory Bell. However, the commitments and sacrifices we have made for one another will always be our greatest reward, for that is Carolina Football.
To my friends outside of football, I love each and every one of you. You're text messages of encouragement, well walk appearances, phone calls and overall support mean more to me than you will ever imagine. I am so blessed to have an amazing group of friends that gave me an outlet from the rigors of this game I love.
To the fans, thank you and I will always be grateful for you getting up early to attend the Old Well walk and for all the "go get'ems". Your attendance and vocal support during Saturday afternoons was never taken for granted. It is you that made my heart pound faster and my adrenaline pump. Every game I absorbed the passion and the love you demonstrated for Carolina football.
An injury is the only real negative aspect to playing football. However, that one negative never overshadows all the positives. This game prepares you for the real world. It teaches you how to compete, win and lose graciously, the power of preparation, teamwork for a common goal, and taking on the real meaning of becoming accountable and responsible. With that said, I'll need a job in six months so if anyone is hiring, please drop me a note.
In closing, thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for everyone who believed in me and to this University for giving me the privilege to wear #41. Go Heels!
