Former North Carolina standout Madison Hedgecock caught one pass and was the lead blocker on a key 4th-and-1 play in the fourth quarter in New York's 17-14 victory over New England in Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots chance at a perfect season came to a dramatic end after starting with 18 consecutive wins.
Hedgecock is in his third season in the NFL and first with New York. He was drafted by St. Louis in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played two seasons with the Rams before landing with the Giants in 2007. A native of Wallburg, N.C., Hedgecock was a four-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels from 2001-04 where he played both fullback and defensive end.
Hedgecock and Russell Davis, both members of the Giants, represented the Tar Heels in the Super Bowl. Davis is a reserve defensive tackle.
