Carolina Women's Golf Finish Eighth at LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic Tar Heel

The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a 303 total in the final round of the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic on Sunday afternoon to tie with Louisville for an eighth place team finish with a total of 906. Florida State maintained their lead from the second round, firing a nine-over-par 297 in the final round to capture the team title with an 884 total.
North Carolina senior Ann Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., led the team in the final round with a 74, tying for eighth in the individual race with a 222 total. Junior Lauren Hunt, of Little River, S.C., carded a 77 and tied for 22nd place with a 226. Junior Sydney Crane, of Jamestown, N.C., and sophomore Kate Thomas, of Murwillumbah, Australia, tied for 46th place with a 231 total. Crane fired a 77 in the final round and Thomas improved four strokes from Saturday with a 75. Colette Lowe, a senior from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., struggled with an 81 in the final round to tie for 70th place with a 237 total.
Florida State's Carolina Westrup fired a five-under-par 67 to clinch the individual title with a 208 total. Westrup finished four strokes ahead of Lauren Doughtie of North Carolina State, who had previously tied Westrup for first in the second round. Doughtie carded a one-under-par 71 in the final round to finish second. Louisiana State's Rebecca Kuhn finished third with a 215, one stroke ahead of Stephanie Connelly of Central Florida. Krystle Caithness of Georgia and Benedicte Toumpsin of South Carolina tied for fifth with 219 while Megan McChrystal of Louisiana State finished seventh with 221. Five strokes separated the fifth and 18th placeholders.
Host team Louisiana State carded a two-over-par 290 in the final round to finish six strokes behind Florida State. Georgia and Louisiana State fell out of the top five in the final round leaving Wake Forest to place third with a 894, North Carolina State in fourth with a 896 and Alabama in fifth place with 897.
The 54-hole event was played at The University Club, a par 72, 6,511-yard layout. The Lady Tar Heels will return to play on Friday, March 28th for Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C.
