Tar Heels Victorious At Carolina Cup

RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina women's rowing team won seven of its 11 races Saturday morning at the Carolina Cup, which the Tar Heels co-hosted with Duke at Lake Wheeler. Also competing were Delaware, George Mason and Georgetown.
The Carolina second varsity eight won both of its races, the first in a time of 7:45.4 over George Mason and the second in 7:58.7 over Delaware. UNC's lineup was Paige Wall (coxswain), Diane Reynolds, Chandler Sours, Andi Drabot, Andrea McGovern, Kelsey Grich, JoAnne Rogers, Katie Wood and Kristi Roblin.
The UNC varsity eight split its races, beating George Mason with a time of 7:19.6 its first time down the course but finishing second to Georgetown in 7:30.4 in the second. The Tar Heel lineup for that boat was Shannon Wilson (coxswain), Maegan Wareham, Lisy McIntee, Lindley Barrow, Cara Van Dorn, Ruby Woodside, Whitney Hileman, Megan McMullin and Kathryn Winz.
In the varsity four, UNC finished second to Duke in 8:59.9 in its first race. The Tar Heels were behind the Blue Devils again in the second race with a time of 8:50.2. Racing in the UNC varsity four were Amy Dement (coxswain), Maeghan Sill, Eugenia Delbono, Molly Jones and Emily Schultz.
Carolina fielded three novice eights. The first novice eight finished its heat in 7:42.0, ahead of George Mason in 8:02.8 and UNC's third boat in 8:20.3. The Carolina second novice eight won its heat in 8:04.0 ahead of Delaware and Georgetown. The top three times advanced to the grand final, with fourth through sixth places in the petite final. UNC's first novice eight took the grand final in 7:50.6 with Carolina's second novice eight placing third in that race with a time of 8:00.4. In the petite final, the Tar Heel third varsity eight finished third in 8:24.3.
The lineup for the first novice eight was Jill Lunsford (coxswain), Paige Wolf, Katherine Williamson, Anna Noguchi, Cait Clendenin, Katie Frayler, Lindsay Paterniti, Vanessa Matos and Tallie Casucci. In the second novice eight were Sarah Nolan (coxswain), Brittany Walsh, Audrey Whitmeyer-Weathers, Lauren Maidment, Caroline Rekuc, Elizabeth Golly, Long, Michelle Rugel and Ashley Trudeau. In the third novice eight were Adrianne Hughes (coxswain), Becca Brenner, Rachel Arnett, Elena Boucher, Jordi Coats, Caitlin Pardue, Madelyn Vital, Mel Carlson and Laura Brookshire.
The Tar Heel novice four won its only race, beating Delaware with a time of 9:14.9. The lineup for UNC was Emily Satterfield (coxswain), Louise Licata, Diane Esson, Emily Johnson and Jocelyn Wang.
The UNC men's club team also competed, racing against club teams from Northwestern and Clemson. The Tar Heel men took first in five of their seven races.
