UNC Women's Golfers Finish Sixth At SJSU Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a 306 in the final round and finished in sixth place of the SJSU Spartan Invitational with a 915 total. California captured the team title with an 899 total after posting a 301 in the final round.
Junior Sydney Crane, of Jamestown, N.C., led the Tar Heels firing a one-over-par 73 in the final round for a 224 total to tie for fifth place in the individual race. Sophomore Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, carded a two-over 74 and tied for ninth place with a 226 total. Ann Laney, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., posted a 76 for a 228 total to tie for 12th place. Junior Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., shot 83 for a 237 total to tie for 42nd place while Laura Caniff, a senior from Russell, Ky., carded an 85 for a 243 total and a tie for 54th place.
Selanee' Henderson of UC Irvine captured the individual title with a two-over 218 total after firing a three-over 75 in the final round. Two California players, Pia Halbig and Allison Goodman, finished two strokes back in a tie for second place at 220. Christina Yoon of Washington finished alone in fourth place at 223 while Carolina's Crane and San Jose State's Cristine Corpus tied for fifth place with 224 totals. Shannon Yocum of California and Nicole Ferrero of Washington tied for seventh place with 225 totals while a trio of players tied ninth at 226 - Carolina's Thomas, San Francisco's Christina Stockton and UC Irvine's Kim Lorenzana.
Host San Jose State was the team runner-up with a 904 total, five strokes behind California's 899. UC Irvine finished third at 906, Washington was fourth at 911, San Francisco was fifth with a 912 and Carolina sixth at 915. Colorado and Oregon State tied for seventh place with 921 totals while Fresno State finished ninth at 932 and Colorado State 10th at 940.
The 54-hole event was played March 3-4 at Almaden Country Club which features a par 72, 6,179-yard layout.
