Carolina Women's Golf In Seventh At ACC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - After one round of play at the ACC Championship, the University of North Carolina women's golf team is in seventh place. The Tar Heels combined for a team-total 304 as junior Lauren Hunt led the way with a two-over 74 to finish in 11th.
Following three bogeys in the first six holes, Hunt rebounded nicely, notching a birdie on the par-5 eighth. She then went on to finish even on the back nine, posting two birdies after bogeys on 11 and 14. One stroke behind Hunt is Sydney Crane who birdied 18 to finish in a tie for 18th. Ann Laney posted 76 and is in 22nd, while Laura Caniff turned in a 79 and Kate Thomas finished at 80.
Atop the leader board is Virginia, who finished with a four-under 284. In second is top-ranked Duke at six-over, followed by Florida State at eight-over. NC State and Wake Forest round out the top five at 11-over, five strokes ahead of the Tar Heels.
On the individual front, Virginia currently owns three of the top five. Joy Kim leads with a three-under 69 as teammate Calle Nielson is one stroke behind in second. Next are three golfers at one-under. They include: Virginia's Jennie Arseneault, Duke's Jennifer Pandolfi, and Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary.
The ACC Championship also marks another Carlyle Cup event. One point will be awarded to either Duke or Carolina depending on which team finishes higher. Carolina currently leads 16-5 and has already clinched a win in this year's competition.
This year's Championship is being held at the LPGA International Legends Course, which features a par 72, 6,315-yard layout. The second round will begin Saturday with players beginning to tee off at 8:00 a.m.
