North Carolina Women's Golf Secure Fifth-Place Finish at ACC Championship

The North Carolina women's golf team secured their fifth-place finish at the ACC Championship on Sunday afternoon after firing a 10-over-par 298 in the final, round, bringing their final total to a 40-over-par 904. Leading the way was junior Sydney Crane who fired a three-over-par 75 for a six-over-par 222 final total. Crane, of Jamestown, N.C., finished the tournament tied for ninth.
Sophomore Kate Thomas, of Bathurst, Australia, peaked in the third round with a three-under-par 69, tying her for 13th place with a seven-over-par 223. Lauren Hunt, a junior of Little River, S.C., tied for 21st with an eleven-over-par 227 while senior Ann Laney, of Charlotte, N.C., tied for 28th with a 17-over-par 233. Laura Caniff, a senior of Russell, Ky., maintained her 41st place from the second round with a 30-over-par 246.
Having fired a four-over-par 292 in the final round, Duke clinched its 13th consecutive ACC Championship with a seven-over-par 871. One stroke behind Duke was Virginia who completed the tournament with an eight-over-par 872. Florida State took third with a 16-over-par 880 total while fifth-placed Wake Forest went home with a 30-over-par 894.
This event also marks the 3rd conference win for Duke's Amanda Blumenherst who fired a one-under-par 71 in the third round for a four-under-par 212 final total. Florida State's Carolina Westrup, who tied for third in the previous round, landed in the number two position with a three-under-par 213. Virginia's Calle Nielson fell into third place after being knocked out from the top spot. Nielson finished with an equal 216 while Duke's Jennifer Pandolfi secured her fourth-place finish with a one-over-par 217. Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary jumped into fifth place with a two-over-par 218 after tying for 11th place in the second round.
The results of the ACC Championship will count towards the final score of this year's Carlyle Cup. Although Duke will be awarded the point for the Women's Golf ACC Championship, Carolina has already clinched a win in their year's competition with a score of 18-7.
The Championship was played at the LPGA International Legends Course, which features a par 72, 6,315-yard layout. Next up on the schedule are the NCAA Regionals. ="">
