No. 13 Tar Heels To Host NCAA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 13 North Carolina softball team has earned the right to host its first-ever NCAA Regional this weekend as was announced by the selection committee Sunday night. The Tar Heels, who posted their first 50-win season in school history, will be the No. 2 seed in the regional and will take on BYU (41-18) on Thursday, May 15 at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. In the other first round matchup the No. 15 overall seed and top seed in the regional, Georgia (43-22), will take on the No. 4 seed Campbell (41-23). The selection marks the sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament for the Tar Heels who are 6-12 in six previous appearances.
The Chapel Hill regional will begin on Thursday, May 15 with a pair of games, followed by three on Friday and the championship game(s) on Saturday. The Tar Heels are 2-0 against their regional opponents, posting a pair of home wins over Campbell earlier in the year.
