TUSCON, Ariz. - North Carolina sophomores Dustin Ackley, Tim Fedroff, Kyle Seager and Alex White each garnered Louisville Slugger All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball newspaper Thursday, giving the Tar Heels a quartet of All-Americas in the same season for the first time in school history. Fedroff was named to the second team, while Ackley, Seager and White claimed spots on the third team.
Carolina's four selections, which outdistanced the Tar Heels' three All-Americas in 1994 and 2002 for the most in school history, were also the most of any team on this year's Collegiate Baseball squads.
Ackley is a repeat selection to the third team, while Fedroff, Seager and White are first-time All-America choices.
Ackley, Fedroff and Seager have been Carolina's offensive stalwarts this season. Ackley leads the club with a .399 average to go along with seven home runs, 44 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Fedroff is batting .383 with a team-high 12 home runs and 59 RBI, while Seager owns team-highs of 27 doubles, 67 RBI and is batting .365 and eight homers. All three earned All-ACC honors last week.
The ACC Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-league choice, White is 8-3 with a 2.86 ERA in a team-high 72 1/3 innings. He has a team-best 87 strikeouts to just 36 walks. White, who will start Saturday for Carolina, matched a career high with 11 strikeouts against Virginia in the ACC Tournament in his last start.
The No. 2 Tar Heels open the NCAA Cary Regional Friday against Mount St. Mary's at 6 p.m.
