The 16 runs by the Tar Heels Friday marked their most-ever in NCAA Tournament play. Carolina had posted its previous high of 15 runs on three occasions - 1948 vs. Georgia Tech, 1978 vs. East Tennessee State and 2006 vs. Maine.
Carolina's 16-8 win Friday ran its record to 9-1 at home in NCAA play over the last three seasons. The Tar Heels have won seven straight games in the regional round since 2006. UNC is now 66-50 in 116 all-time NCAA Tournament games, and Mike Fox is now 31-18 in the postseason.
The Tar Heels logged the most doubles of the Mike Fox era and the most in recorded school history with nine Friday. UNC now has 157 doubles on the season to set a single-season school record. The previous mark was 153 established in 2002.
Carolina also posted a season-high 11 extra-base hits on nine doubles, a home run and a triple.
Dustin Ackley went 4-for-5 with three RBI for his eighth career four-hit game. He also matched a career-high with four runs scored and now has 73 runs on the season to move into a tie for sixth on the Tar Heels' single-season and surpass his total of last season. Ackley has posted four straight multi-hit games and six in the last seven outings.
Tim Fedroff went 4-for-4 with six RBI to match career highs. He registered his third career four-hit game and his second career six-RBI contest. He now has 14 RBI in 14 career NCAA Tournament games and extended his career-high RBI total to 65 for the season. Fedroff has hit safely in seven straight games with 16 RBI in the last 16 games.
Both Ackley and Fedroff now have 97 hits on the season to rank eighth on the Tar Heels' single-season list.
In his first career NCAA appearance, Ryan Graepel recorded his first career three-hit game, which included two doubles. He also scored a career-best three runs.
Freshman right-hander Matt Harvey made his postseason debut Friday against Mount St. Mary's and allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts over three innings. Harvey has allowed just three hits and has 16 strikeouts over his last 11 innings.
Seth Williams hit his 32nd career home run and second in NCAA play in the fourth inning. Williams now has 13 career RBI in the postseason.
Making just his second start of the season at designated hitter, Garrett Gore went 2-for-5 to give the Tar Heels five players with multi-hit games.
Rob Wooten, who moved to 6-2 with the win, pitched in his 36th game of the season to move into a tie for sixth on the Tar Heels' single-season list. He also earned his fourth career win in NCAA play, which ranks third in school history.
